Rob Sand Announces His Running Mate in Gubernatorial Campaign
On Monday, Democratic gubernatorial nominee Rob Sand named Crawford County Supervisor Dave Muhlbauer as his running mate, adding a fifth-generation farmer to strengthen the ticket in western Iowa.
Muhlbauer's selection aims to strengthen the campaign's foothold in the farming community and expand Sand's reach to overcome a steep voter registration disadvantage in areas where Republicans have dominated recent elections.
Raised in Manilla, Muhlbauer comes from a family with deep roots in public service; his father, Dan, and grandfather, Louis, both served as supervisors and in the Iowa Legislature.
Sand stated Muhlbauer "knows it's time to rotate the crops in state government," emphasizing a shared focus on government accountability, income growth, and addressing the struggling farm economy.
The campaign enters a competitive general election phase as Sand prepares to face Republican Zach Lahn in November. Analysts view Iowa as pivotal this year for both governor and Senate races.
