- Under party rules, Rob Lantz, interim premier, had to resign within 10 days of the leadership convention announcement on Feb. 7 after Dennis King's resignation, following earlier mixed signals about running.
- Party officials say they expect a competitive race as the party set a Dec. 24 entry deadline and plans three public forums, one in each county, beginning in mid-January.
- It is not yet known who will succeed Lantz, but P.E.I.'s 35th premier will be sworn Friday afternoon, possibly marking the province's third premier this year.
