QUITO (AP) — At least five people were killed, 38 injured and 10 missing, Ecuador's Risk Management Secretariat reported Saturday after a river overflowed in the southern province of Zamora Chinchipe, bordering Peru.
The overflow of the Zamora River wreaked havoc in sectors of Guadalupe parish, in Zamora canton.
Sngr confirmed that 48 people managed to be rescued, including 10 firefighters who had been trapped during the initial relief maneuvers.
Authorities maintain search and rescue efforts, while hundreds of families remain affected by the disaster.
At least five people died, 38 were injured and ten are lost after a flood and overflow of a river registered in Zamora Chinchipe province, located in the Amazon region of Ecuador, according to preliminary data revealed this Saturday by the National Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR).
