Ripple Just Got Its Full EU MiCA License. Is This Big for XRP?
The approval makes Ripple one of a small group of firms fully authorized under MiCA and clears regulated payments across 30 EEA countries.
- On Monday, Ripple received full Crypto-Asset Service Provider authorization from Luxembourg's Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier , clearing the firm to offer regulated crypto payments across all 30 European Economic Area countries.
- Europe's Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation became law three years ago and came into full force on July 1, requiring firms to obtain licenses or cease operations. Only about 210 of 1,200-plus companies successfully qualified in time.
- Cassie Craddock, Ripple's managing director for the U.K. and Europe, said the license complements existing Electronic Money Institution approval from February. "This CASP authorisation means Ripple enters the post-transitional MiCA era fully compliant and ready to scale," Craddock said.
- While the approval expands Ripple Payments, which has handled more than $100 billion across 60-plus markets, the announcement centers on institutional services rather than XRP. Markets reacted minimally when preliminary approval came through in June, with the token slipping about 3%.
- Future growth for the XRP Ledger depends on whether European payment volume shifts to the network, though most current transactions settle in fiat or stablecoins. Additionally, Ripple's stablecoin RLUSD still awaits separate European approval before public offering.
