Right-Wing Extremism: Is It True that an AfD Ban Procedure Has No Chance?

Since the classification of the AfD as a secure right-wing extremist, many politicians have called for a ban on the party. The Federal Minister of the Interior sees no basis for this.

The constitutional protection classifies the AfD-Bundespartei as secure far-right, four national associations also. Will this make a party ban procedure more likely?

The obstacles to a ban are high - therefore there are differences of opinion as to whether an AfD ban procedure should be initiated. This also ensures a partly turbulent debate in the Landtag.

In the debate about an AfD ban, the designated Minister-President of Lower Saxony, Olaf Lies (SPD), has warned against hasty action. "I consider it dangerous to demand hasty proceedings," Lies told the "Handelsblatt" newspaper.
