RICHMOND, CALIFORNIA, AUG 5 – Two officers fatally shot a man armed with multiple knives who threatened people inside a home, marking the department's second fatal knife-related shooting this year, officials said.
- In the Iron Triangle neighborhood, Richmond Police Department officers shot a man Monday evening after he allegedly threatened to kill people with knives at the 400 block of First Street.
- Responding to a 9-1-1 call, KTVU dispatchers said the suspect wielded at least one knife and a second edged weapon.
- Richmond Police officers announced their presence at the front door before confronting the suspect with at least one and possibly two edged weapons, and two officers discharged their weapons.
- Invoking the Law Enforcement Involved Fatal Incident protocol, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office responded to investigate, officers were placed on paid administrative leave, and surrounding roadways remained closed.
- Amid a string of incidents, this marks the department’s second fatal officer-involved shooting in six months, following the February shooting of Jose De Jesus Mendez on Carlson Boulevard.
