Representative Troy Downing (R-MT) warns the Senate to go easy on budget cuts to President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill. “There’s things in there that I would’ve liked to have seen different. But I also, again, don’t want perfect to be the enemy of the good,” he says. And I think if they tweak too many policy positions, it’s going to be harder to get that passed when it comes back to the House.”
Senate Begins Reconciliation Push
What happened: Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) set a July 4 deadline for his chamber’s passage of the “One Big Beautiful Bill” Act, which passed the House in May. The Senate will modify the House version, in order to attract 51 votes, but must do so without jeopardizing narrow support in the House.
