Rep. Mike Collins advances to Georgia GOP Senate runoff, as two rivals battle for the other spot
CBS News projects Collins in the runoff as Republicans seek to challenge Jon Ossoff, while Carter and Derek Dooley battle for the second spot.
Rep. Mike Collins advanced to the June 16 runoff in the Georgia GOP primary, CBS News projects, to face the eventual nominee against Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff.
Candidates must clear 50% of the vote in Georgia to avoid a runoff. Collins, Carter, and Dooley sought the nomination, with Dooley endorsed by Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp.
Citing a House Ethics Committee investigation into alleged fund misuse, Carter criticized Collins. "If those two are our candidates, we lose," Carter said on The Takeout with Major Garrett, arguing focus should remain on Ossoff's voting record.
Ossoff, unopposed in the primary, has amassed more than $32 million in cash on hand after raising $14 million in the first quarter to defend his seat.
The Democratic Senate Majority PAC announced a $20 million investment in ad reservations, while The Senate Leadership Fund plans $44 million in advertising overall, reflecting the race's importance as a key pickup opportunity for Republicans.
