HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS, AUG 10 – Texas Democrats fled the state to deny quorum and block GOP redistricting they say targets Black voters, with fines up to $500 per day enforcing their prolonged protest, leaders said.
- More than 50 Texas Democrats, including Rep. Jolanda Jones, fled to Illinois, Massachusetts and New York to deny a quorum, blocking GOP redistricting efforts.
- Amid a GOP-led redistricting push, Texas Democrats argue they’re fighting against racist gerrymandering, with Michael Eric Dyson warning it would disenfranchise Black and Latino voters, according to Democrats.
