Reform MP Calls by-Election Candidate’s Carol Vorderman Post ‘Inappropriate’
Hope Not Hate says deleted X accounts linked to Kenyon contained misogynistic and transphobic posts, as Reform defends its candidate.
On Monday, East Wiltshire MP Danny Kruger faced questions on BBC Radio 4's Today programme about deleted social media posts by Reform candidate Robert Kenyon targeting Welsh broadcaster Carol Vorderman from Christmas Eve 2021.
Campaign group Hope Not Hate uncovered the posts after Kenyon's announcement as Reform's candidate for the Makerfield by-election last week, revealing misogynistic content, transphobic remarks, and Covid conspiracy theories on his now-deleted X accounts.
A Survation poll of 504 Makerfield respondents placed Labour's Andy Burnham at 43%, Kenyon at 40%, and Restore Britain's Rebecca Shepherd at 7%, as Labour chairwoman Anna Turley accused Reform of 'making excuses for vile misogyny'.
Kruger defended Kenyon by arguing the comments were made as a private citizen before entering politics, saying "He was not a politician at the time. He was an ordinary man from an ordinary place," and refused calls to drop him.
Reform stands by Kenyon without investigating his historical social media activity, with the party calling him a 'straight-talking, effective voice,' while Elon Musk's endorsement of rival Restore Britain prompts Reform leader Nigel Farage to warn the tech billionaire will 'split the right' in the contest.
