Over 22,000 bathing areas across the 27 European Union countries, Albania, and Switzerland, were tested for water quality. The latest report shows that 85 percent of EU waters were deemed excellent, and 96 percent met minimum safety requirements. Unfortunately, Poland ranked last, according to Saturday's Euronews report.
Polish residents, as well as tourists staying in the north of the country and planning to use swimming areas, should familiarize themselves with the GiS's decisions. Here is a list of places where the ban has been implemented. The cause is cyanobacteria.
Twelve bathing areas are closed due to cyanobacterial blooms.
A cyanobacterial bloom has prompted the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate to temporarily close several swimming areas in northern Poland. These include Rowy and Jastarnia, which are located on the Baltic Sea, where red flags have been displayed.
