20-Year-Old Woman Charged with Arson as Fire Crews Continue to Tackle Blaze Near Peak District Reservoir
Police say the blaze remains under investigation as around 70 firefighters and specialist crews continue to tackle smoke and road closures.
On Tuesday, July 14, Shania Care-Slede, 20, of Hyde, appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court charged with aggravated arson and dangerous driving in connection with the Dovestone Reservoir moorland fire.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service crews have battled the blaze since Saturday evening on the western edge of the Peak District National Park, which was declared a major incident.
The fire remains in a "steady state," with around 70 firefighters and 11 fire engines continuing operations across terrain GMFRS Area Manager Ben Levy described as "very steep and unsteady under foot."
Detective Inspector Andrew Day said, "While we have secured charges against one individual, our investigation remains ongoing," urging the public to submit footage via the Dovestones Fire Evidence Submission Portal.
Road closures remain in place and Greater Manchester Police urged the public to "avoid speculation online" as criminal proceedings are active, while residents are advised to keep windows closed to avoid smoke.
