North East Reality TV Stars Scotty T and Rebecca Gormley Sentenced over Illegal Instagram Posts
Seven reality TV personalities admitted to promoting unregulated Forex trading on Instagram without FCA approval, receiving payments up to £2,275, the court heard.
On Friday, seven television stars including Lauren Goodger, Yazmin Oukhellou, and Scott Timlin admitted guilt at Southwark Crown Court for promoting foreign-exchange trading on Instagram.
In 2020 and 2021, the defendants promoted unregulated FX trading on Instagram, accepting payments of 900, 400 and 300 pounds despite lacking FCA authorisation.
A member of the public said Goodger's content 'persuaded her' to join despite lacking Forex knowledge, and she admitted creating the posts but claimed 'she wouldn't promote something she didn't believe was legitimate'.
On Friday, the court lifted reporting restrictions, and the judge set further sentences for Timlin, Oukhellou, and Clayton; Goodger was previously fined 3,750 and 5,778.18 in costs.
Court comments put the case in the context of social media being 'awash' with FX promotions, with the judge ruling there is a public interest in reporting the matter amid the finfluencer trend.
