Rare sightings of Lake Erie jellyfish have people buzzing

PUT-IN-BAY, Ohio — Rarely seen Lake Erie freshwater jellyfish have created an Internet buzz after being spotted first in Presque Isle Bay near Erie, Pa., and most recently this week near the shorelines of Middle Bass Island and South Bass Island.

Freshwater jellyfish roughly the size of a penny have recently been spotted in western and eastern Lake Erie. Most of the time, they’re stuck to the bottom of the lake as polyps, but occasionally they grow into the traditional jellyfish form. Read the full story by the Times-Reporter.
