Romanian man Mihai-Nicolae Patran jailed for raping doctor in Glasgow alleyway

On Monday at Glasgow High Court, Judge Norman McFadyen sentenced Mihai Nicolae Patran and said he poses a real danger to women.
The court found that Mihai Nicolae Patran assaulted a 27-year-old doctor and committed three sexual offences involving female strangers over a five-week period, prosecutor said.
The court heard that CCTV and mobile phone evidence captured part of the assault, which lasted over 40 minutes, and the victim fled naked from the waist down to the taxi.
The court ordered supervision for three years after release, added Patran to the sex offenders register indefinitely, and Lord Norman McFadyen said the risk requires extended protection.
Defence counsel Donald Findlay KC said he cannot offer contrition as Mihai-Nicolae Patran maintains his innocence, while Faye Cook, Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offences, called him a sexual opportunist and prosecutors pledged support for victims.
