Rangers' deGrom could start against Nats a week after exiting early with triceps fatigue
Jacob deGrom checked out OK after a bullpen session and could return for the series finale after leaving his last start with triceps fatigue.
On Wednesday, Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said Jacob Degrom could start Thursday's series finale against the Washington Nationals after clearing a bullpen session.
Last Thursday in Anaheim, Degrom lasted only two innings against the Los Angeles Angels before exiting with right triceps fatigue, compounding left hip and glute injuries since the All-Star break.
Chasing his 2,000th career strikeout, Degrom needs two more to reach the milestone while carrying a 3.95 ERA, the highest mark in his 13 big league seasons.
The five-time All-Star has made 23 starts this season and could match last year's total of 30 starts for the Rangers if he remains healthy.
Reaching 30 starts would mark Degrom's highest volume since his Young Award seasons with the New York Mets in 2018 and 2019, as he navigates an injury-impacted campaign.
