Ramayana advance bookings to open on Dussehra ahead of November 5 theatrical release
Advance sales opened on Dussehra as exhibitors and distributors negotiated revenue splits, with Sacnilk reporting Rs 10 crore in bookings before release.
On October 20, coinciding with Dussehra, makers opened advance bookings for the mythological epic Ramayana. However, ticket availability remained limited across India as negotiations between distributors and exhibitors stalled over revenue-sharing terms.
Dharma Productions reportedly sought a higher distributor share of 60%, 50%, and 40% for the first three weeks, exceeding the usual 52.5%, 45%, and 37.5% rates. Exhibitors resisted these terms, citing operating costs and financial risks.
Despite initial booking delays, the film has grossed Rs 4.96 crore in Day 1 advance bookings for its November 5 opening. The Hindi version is driving this demand, contributing around 88 percent of the total gross.
Delhi-NCR leads the market, contributing Rs 2.13 crore from 27,141 tickets, followed by Mumbai with Rs 1.60 crore from 22,836 tickets. Momentum is building as more cinemas finalize commercial arrangements and open ticket sales.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the first installment of this two-part adaptation starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and Sai Pallavi arrives in theaters worldwide on November 5. The makers also plan international versions in nearly 40 languages.
