Drivers Share Touching Stories After Sudden Death of Kyle Busch
Drivers remembered Busch with memorial stickers and personal stories after his sudden death, as Austin Hill replaced him at the Coca-Cola 600.
Kyle Busch, a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, died Thursday, May 21, 2026, at age 41 in Charlotte, North Carolina, after being hospitalized with a severe illness.
Known as 'Rowdy' for his brash competitive edge, Busch secured 234 all-time NASCAR wins, the most in history, and claimed Cup Series championships in 2015 and 2019.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway lit the pylon on lap 18 during Sunday's Indy 500 in honor of Busch, while Richard Childress Racing suspended his number to reserve it for his 11-year-old son, Brexton Busch.
Fellow racers shared tributes, with Brad Keselowski posting, "His loss is all of our loss, but none more so than his family," as Carson Hocevar called Busch a hero.
During a Friday press conference, NASCAR CEO Steve O'Donnell said the sport will honor Busch forever, emphasizing tributes will extend beyond this weekend as the racing community continues mourning the legend.
