Cunard's Queen Mary 2 Takes Centre Stage During America's 250th Anniversary Celebration in New York Harbour
The event featured more than 100 vessels, a military flypast and fireworks as Cunard marked its historic transatlantic ties.
On July 4, 2026, the luxury ocean liner Queen Mary 2 anchored in New York Harbor as the centerpiece of Sail4th 250, marking the United States' 250th Independence Day.
The event featured the International Parade of Sail with more than 100 vessels, including 47 tall ships from 20 nations, sailing past the Statue of Liberty alongside an International Naval Review of 37 allied ships.
Cunard has called at the Port of New York every year since December 1847, a relationship spanning more than 178 years and longer than any other port in the line's history.
NBC's TODAY broadcast live from the liner to capture the festivities, while Chris O'Brien, President of Sail4th 250 New York, said the ship's participation made the commemoration "most meaningful."
Organizers used the gathering to "promote international friendship, maritime heritage, and support for sail training," continuing a mission President Kennedy endorsed in 1961 as part of the Sail250 America consortium.
