Last Thursday, Quebec passed Bill 9, An Act respecting the strengthening of secularism. This is the second act passed by the National Assembly in the last six months with the effect of widening the ban on the wearing of religious signs under the Secularity of the State Act. A week earlier, a historic hearing on the latter had just concluded in the Supreme Court of Canada, where a record number of speakers challenged its constitutionality.
