Qualcomm details next-gen Oryon CPU, targets 5GHz with heterogeneous cache design
The chip uses two 5GHz Prime cores and FlexCache to keep larger tasks on-chip for faster AI, gaming and editing performance, Qualcomm said.
- The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 appeared on Geekbench inside an unreleased V2606A prototype, becoming one of the first smartphone chips to cross the 5GHz threshold.
- Qualcomm introduced a new cache architecture named FlexCache, which gives "heterogeneous" cores access to cached data, allowing the 5GHz Prime Cores to perform dynamic cache allocation.
- The device recorded a single-core score of 3,434 and a multi-core result of 9,334 in Geekbench, falling behind the current Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 at 3,631 and 10,940 respectively.
- Pre-Production devices commonly deliver lower benchmark scores due to incomplete performance tuning, though the same processor recently generated a reported AnTuTu score exceeding 4.8 million points.
- Qualcomm is expected to reveal the chip at its Snapdragon Summit in September, as the processor could use TSMC's 2nm N2P process to power 2027 Android phones like the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
