Qualcomm Brings Its Cheaper Snapdragon X2 PC Chips to CES
- On Monday at CES in Las Vegas, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon X2 Plus laptop processors, offered in 6-core and 10-core SKUs and expected in laptops by the end of the first quarter this year.
- Expanding its Snapdragon X lineup, Qualcomm follows the higher-end Snapdragon X2 Elite announced last year and aims to boost Windows on Arm with stronger AI and battery life.
- The chips use a 3-nm process and Qualcomm claims the Snapdragon X2 Plus 10-core reaches 4 GHz max, supports LPDDR5x memory, and needs 43% less power for multi-day battery life.
- OEMs including Microsoft and Lenovo will ship X2 Plus laptops, and Qualcomm says any Snapdragon X2 PC qualifies as a Microsoft Copilot+ PC, while pricing oddities complicate OEM costs.
- Despite competition from Intel and AMD, Qualcomm-powered PCs remain below 1% market share, and IDC analyst Jean Philippe Bouchard says enterprises hesitate despite battery and security benefits.
