PWHL Las Vegas Names Kim Weiss as First Head Coach for Inaugural 2026-27 Season
Weiss becomes the PWHL’s fourth women’s coach as the league expands to 12 teams, with Vancouver still seeking a coach.
On Monday, the PWHL Las Vegas expansion franchise officially appointed Kim Weiss as its first head coach, with General Manager Dominique DiDia praising her track record developing players and building team culture.
Weiss, 37, transitions to the women's game after two seasons as an assistant with the American Hockey League's Colorado Eagles, having previously served as the first female assistant coach in NCAA Division III men's hockey at Trinity College.
In Colorado, Weiss became the second woman in AHL or NHL history to serve as a full-time assistant coach, and she reunites with DiDia, her former teammate at Trinity College.
The hiring comes two days before the PWHL entry draft in Detroit, with Weiss becoming the league's fourth women's coach as the PWHL expands to 12 franchises for next season.
DiDia pointed to Las Vegas's growing hockey fan base as central to the franchise vision, noting the organization is focused on building a "first-class environment" for staff and fans.
