- On Thursday, President Vladimir Putin offered small parts of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia for larger Donbas areas, less than his 2024 demand of nearly 20,000 square km, in an Oct 16 call.
- After the meeting, Mr Trump said both sides should halt hostilities at existing battle lines and Mr Zelensky acknowledged that stance; they agreed on Thursday to hold a second summit within the next two weeks in Budapest.
- So far, the White House did not immediately respond to a Reuters inquiry and Zelensky's spokesperson did not reply to requests about whether Trump pressured Zelensky.
- Mr Zelensky arrived at the White House seeking weapons but met Mr Trump focused on peace settlement negotiations, while Mr Trump and Mr Putin agreed on a second summit within two weeks in Budapest.
