Sergei Surovikin, the Russian general nicknamed “General Armageddon,” is set to return to command in Ukraine after years in exile, the British tabloid The Sun reported. The man, who became famous for his brutality in Syria and Chechnya and supported the use of nuclear weapons at the start of the war, disappeared from public life after the Wagner rebellion in 2023. He was last seen working at the Russian embassy in Algeria.

In Syria, he did not hesitate to use chemical weapons. In Ukraine, he saved the Russian army during its retreat to Kherson in 2022. He built a line that stopped the Ukrainian offensive a year later.
