Putin invited to join Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’ for Gaza, Kremlin says
The US-led Board of Peace aims to oversee Gaza's reconstruction and ceasefire, inviting Putin and leaders from 60 countries to join, with permanent seats costing $1 billion.
- On Monday, the Kremlin said Russian President Vladimir Putin received through diplomatic channels an invitation to join the U.S. 'Board of Peace' for Gaza, with Moscow studying the proposal and seeking U.S. clarification, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
- The White House announced Friday the Board of Peace will provide strategic oversight to sustain a fragile ceasefire and oversee Gaza's demilitarisation and reconstruction under a 20-point plan.
- President Donald Trump will chair the board with 11 founding members, including Steve Witkoff, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Sir Tony Blair, while invitations went to around 60 countries and reports say permanent membership requires a $1bn payment.
- Earlier on Monday Kazakhstan's leader accepted an invitation, joining Hungary and Vietnam, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel said the Gaza Executive Board announcement was uncoordinated and contrary to policy.
- If implemented, the initiative could be expanded beyond Gaza as a peacekeeping body, with the U.S. establishing the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza and a UN Security Council mandate focused on Gaza despite Russia and China abstentions.
