Russia reportedly intends to henceforth even allow people who are officially completely unfit for military service to perform certain tasks within the army. People who are blind and people who are deaf in both ears also fall into this category. According to the opposition newspaper ‘Novaya Gazeta’, which is banned in Russia, President Putin has agreed to a proposal to deploy such volunteers for drone defense.

Yevgeny Poddubny, a “war correspondent” for Russian state broadcaster VGTRK who heads United Russia’s electoral list, asked Vladimir Putin to allow volunteers with a Category D fitness classification to serve in regional units defending against Ukrainian drone attacks.
These are volunteers with category D who are considered to be totally unfit for military service.
