London Teen, 17, Dies While Snorkelling in Lake on School Trip
Police said divers found the 17-year-old underwater after an extensive search, and he was pronounced dead at Monkey Bay Community Hospital.
On Tuesday, 17-year-old Hampton School pupil Eugene Enoch Kwon died while snorkeling in Lake Malawi at Cape Maclear. He was found by divers underwater and pronounced dead at Monkey Bay Community Hospital.
Superintendent Patrick Mussa of the Malawi Police Service said the disappearance prompted an "immediate search operation." He added: "After an extensive search, divers located him underwater."
Hampton School, an independent boys' school in Richmond upon Thames, acknowledged the death. A spokesperson stated: "Our thoughts, love and deepest sympathies are with the pupil's family and loved ones at this unimaginably difficult time."
Police in the Eastern Region have expressed condolences to the bereaved family as investigations into the incident continue. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the death.
The school's focus remains on supporting the pupil's family and those affected. This tragedy follows a separate recent death of a student on a Duke of Edinburgh expedition in Wales.
