3 Injured in Crowd Surge at Shivneri Fort During Shivaji Jayanti Celebrations in Pune
Overcrowding and a push from above during Shivaji Jayanti at Shivneri Fort caused injuries to three people, officials said.
- On February 19, 2026, three persons were injured at Shivneri Fort during Shivaji Jayanti celebrations, police said.
- A push from above sent multiple people tumbling during a descent on the fort, as a person from the upper side pushed someone, causing four to five people to fall and triggering the disturbance.
- Around 3.30 am a group carrying a torch was descending near Meena Darwaja in Junnar tehsil when the incident occurred.
- Police personnel on site immediately assisted the injured and maintained crowd movement while Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural, Sandip Singh Gill said additional police force was deployed and attendees were advised to slow down.
- Shivneri Fort, the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, hosted celebrations attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and deputies, including a 'cradle ceremony' on Thursday.
