PRP seeks Tinubu's impeachment over alleged tax laws alterations

  • On Monday the Peoples Redemption Party , led by National Chairman Falalu Bello, demanded immediate suspension of disputed tax laws, alleging the executive clandestinely altered bills after National Assembly passage and accusing it of `blatant executive misconduct`.
  • Hon. Abdulsammad Dasuki told the House that discrepancies between passed tax laws and gazetted versions prompted the House of Representatives to form a seven-member ad-hoc committee.
  • Data show the alleged edits were insertion, deletion and modification of substantive provisions, according to the Peoples Redemption Party, which called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation.
  • Should evidence implicate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Peoples Redemption Party urged impeachment without delay and warned it will seek judicial intervention if unresolved.
  • The Nigerian Bar Association on Tuesday urged suspension pending investigation, warning legal uncertainty could disrupt business and erode investor confidence, while civil society organisations also cited irregularities.
