Newfoundland's Department of Forestry says it's assessing reports of multiple new wildfires in Labrador that resulted from lighting strikes.

The Department of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands is currently monitoring two active fires in Labrador West. The fire at Emerillon Lake South is 8 hectares and classified as Under Control. Aircraft and ground crew are on site but no further spread is expected. The fire at Oreway is currently estimated at 470 hectares and classified as Out of Control.
