Protest against ‘incel’ ideology today in Montreal after deadly shooting
A group of women is protesting in Montreal against incel ideology due to a deadly shooting that highlights the risk of misogynistic extremism.
Incel means 'involuntary celibate,' referring to a mostly male internet group blaming women and society for their lack of romantic relationships.
Activist Céleste Trianon says the protest starts at the 1989 Polytechnique massacre memorial, where a gunman killed 14 women out of hatred for feminism.
Monday's shooting in Côte-des-Neiges killed three people, including a police officer, and the alleged shooter wrote a manifesto expressing hatred toward women.
A hundred people gathered in Montreal on Thursday evening to denounce "incel ideology" and its violent repercussions, in the wake of the shooting of Côte-des-Neiges.
