Progressive Conservatives, NDP hold on to their seats in Ontario byelections
Progressive Conservatives and the NDP held two ridings as voters focused on health care, education and affordability, candidates said.
On Thursday, Ontario voters held provincial byelections in three ridings, with incumbent party candidates successfully defending their seats in the legislature.
Progressive Conservative Jeff Beattie won Hamilton East and Stoney Creek, while Susan Lahey secured York-Simcoe with 50 per cent of the vote in Thursday's races.
Candidates reported that long-standing provincial concerns—health care, education, and affordability—dominated conversations as they knocked on doors throughout the campaign.
Doug Ford congratulated Lahey and Beattie on their victories, stating voters backed a team that will "stand up to tariffs" and protect workers.
NDP leader Marit Stiles celebrated New Democrat Fatima Shaban's victory in Scarborough Southwest, where the party maintained its stronghold with over 40 per cent of the vote.
