Eby promises Langley long-term care facility
Eby said the province will build the facility if re-elected, while citing cost challenges and plans to standardize design to lower per-bed expenses.
On Friday, Oct. 23, NDP leader David Eby visited Langley City, reaffirming his commitment to build a 300-bed long-term care facility at Langley Memorial Hospital if re-elected.
Addressing past project delays, Eby said the government faced challenges reducing per-bed costs, but the province is now working to drive down expenses through standardization.
Eby promised "shovels will be in the ground" on this and 7 other long-term care facilities, acknowledging urgent need for more hospital services in the fast-growing South of the Fraser.
Local candidate Andrew Mercier announced the NDP is promising a second Urgent Primary Care facility for Langley, intended to reduce pressure on overburdened hospital emergency rooms.
While Eby alleged the B.C. Conservatives would cut health services, the Conservatives have promised to protect health-care funding, recruit more doctors and nurses, and cut wait times.
