About 70 protesters targeted Apple over alleged cobalt mining abuses and ties to immigration enforcement; four were arrested after blocking the Midtown store entrance, police said.
- On Black Friday, police arrested four protesters who tried to block the entrance of the Midtown Apple Store at E. 59th St., across from Central Park during a Black Friday promotion.
- A coalition of about 70 protesters, including pro-Palestinian demonstrators waving Palestinian flags, accused Apple of benefiting from alleged exploitative cobalt mining in the Congo and criticized its ties to ICE and President Trump.
- More than a dozen cops handcuffed protesters who refused to move, two people were arrested about 20 minutes into the protest, which lasted another 40 minutes after the arrests.
- Authorities did not immediately file charges after the detentions of four protesters, and pro-Israel advocates and Jewish leaders blasted the protest as antisemitic, with Gov. Kathy Hochul calling it `a blatant attack on the Jewish community`.
- The demonstration occurred not far from the Park East Synagogue on E. 67th St., site of a tumultuous Nov. 19 rally, and on Saturday Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch apologized as Fifth Ave vendors noted first arrests.
