Israel seizes buffer zone inside Syria

DAMASCUS - An Israeli military incursion into Syria has reached about 25 kilometres southwest of Damascus, Syrian security sources said on Tuesday, after Israel seized a buffer zone in the south of the country and launched air strikes on Syrian army and air bases overnight.

The advance of Israeli troops in this area is “a violation” of the 1974 disengagement agreement between Israel and Syria, the UN spokesperson said on Monday.

Israel's military is bombing the military facilities of the deposed Assad government in Syria. The army wants to occupy a buffer zone. According to a spokesman, reports of Israeli soldiers a few kilometers from Damascus are not true. More in the live ticker.
