Policing Bill 90% Ready For Transmission To NASS — Gbajabiamila
Gbajabiamila said the bill is 90% ready, with governors’ observations still to be cleared before transmission to lawmakers.
On Thursday, Presidential Working Group Chairman Femi Gbajabiamila announced the National Policing Bill is 90% ready for transmission to the National Assembly.
Deliberations since August 3 have refined the legislation, which Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga described as "the most consequential Bill of the administration so far."
Kwara Governor AbdulRazak AbdulRahman, Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun, Kaduna Governor Uba Sani, Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu, and Solicitor General Beatrice Jedy-Agba attended Thursday's meeting.
Transmission of the bill to the National Assembly is expected within two weeks, pending final reviews of governors' feedback.
Although only six of 36 states have passed the amendment to authorize state police forces, Gbajabiamila asserted a "national consensus" on the separate Sixth Constitution Alteration Bill.
