Missing Rehoboth Woman's Boyfriend to Face Murder Charge
Groom admitted stabbing Monteiro during a conflict and concealing her body in a hole on his property, with the victim about 11 weeks pregnant, officials said.
- On Aug. 11, police returned to Travis Groom's County Street residence and later recovered what appeared to be Gabriella Monteiro's body from a hole he had described; Monteiro went missing Aug. 7 and was about 11 weeks pregnant at the time.
- The couple's relationship started off strong after meeting at an Attleboro park, but Travis Groom believed Gabriella Monteiro frequently lied about the pregnancy before accepting it after seeing medical paperwork.
- Prosecutors described the attack and burial, saying Groom stabbed Monteiro twice in the neck and once in the chest with a kitchen knife, breaking the blade, then spent hours digging a hole about five feet deep in the woods on his property about 20 yards from the murder scene before burying her.
- Prosecutors said Tuesday that police informed Travis Groom of a warrant and prepared search, and Groom returned with Faith Monteiro agreeing to an interview; his next hearing is Sept. 10.
- During his police interview, Travis Groom remained silent, fidgety, and avoided eye contact; he later denied assault claims and requested a lawyer, while Gabriella Monteiro texted her sister alleging abuse and warning, `My phones at 4% if I die it was greg.
