Praise for ‘essential neighborhood institutions’

Following what was called the most efficient and “financially responsible” course, the West Springfield School Department shut the doors of the Mittineague Elementary School for a final time this month.It was a closing that seemed inevitable, as the city’s mayor and its school superintendent have for years supported a model that eliminated the small, neighborhood school in favor of having students attend one of two larger schools.
