Deaths of NH Mother, Son Being Investigated as Possible Murder-Suicide
Autopsies are scheduled after investigators found Eileen Shevelin, 78, and Thomas Wallace, 57, dead during a welfare check, officials said.
Dover police discovered 78-year-old Eileen Shevelin and her 57-year-old son Thomas Wallace dead inside a home on Dover Point Road on Tuesday morning after responding around 9 a.m. for a welfare check, with authorities investigating the deaths as a possible murder-suicide.
Senior Assistant Attorney General Ben Agati said first responders attempted multiple contact methods before entering the home, as officers had been conducting a follow-up welfare check on the residents.
Shevelin was found dead in her bed while Wallace appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound to the head; both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Autopsies are scheduled for today at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Concord, with investigators assuring the public there is no known threat and additional details to follow once examinations are complete.
Agati noted that murder-suicide cases are rare in New Hampshire, which maintains among the nation's lowest homicide rates per capita, as detectives conduct standard homicide investigation procedures pending autopsy results to confirm or rule out the classification.
