Portnoy's Cooper claim lands as Unwell faces workplace scrutiny
Portnoy says the women sought to claim harassment to break their Barstool deals, as Cooper faces separate workplace scrutiny at Unwell Network.
In a WSJ Magazine profile published Friday, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy alleged that Call Her Daddy co-hosts Alex Cooper and Sofia Franklyn planned to fabricate sexual harassment claims to exit their contracts while promoting his memoir, Cancel Me.
Portnoy described the former partners as "willing to step on my neck and burn any bridge to get ahead," revealing what he called the podcast's best-kept secret: Cooper and Franklyn hated each other despite their successful collaboration.
Responding to the claims, Cooper stated she has "thick skin" and advised people to "don't believe everything that you read on the internet." She simultaneously faces separate allegations regarding a toxic workplace at her company, The Unwell Network.
In her 2025 documentary Call Her Alex, Cooper alleged that her former Boston University soccer coach, Nancy Feldman, sexually harassed and isolated her until she left the team. Following the release, 99 alumni signed a letter supporting Feldman.
The dispute highlights the acrimonious 2020 breakup that saw Call Her Daddy outgrow the Barstool empire. Cooper eventually signed an exclusive deal with Spotify and launched her own media venture, marking a significant departure from the company's sports-focused lineup.
