In a speech to the French authorities and civil society, Leo XIV spoke of the disturbing trends that threaten to reduce science and technology to profitable ventures that foster planned death. He pointed out that the protection of life is the foundation of human rights and called on France to protect freedom of conscience and be a builder of peace.
For his first speech in France, Friday, September 25, 2026, the pope denounced, before Emmanuel Macron, the GPA and "the offer of a scheduled death", defended the Catholic school and criticized the arms race.
