Police seek 17-year-old for attempted murder in shooting near University of Iowa, authorities say
Police say the suspect fired six shots after a fight involving about 40 people, leaving one victim in critical condition and four others injured.
- On Wednesday, Iowa City Police Chief Dustin Liston announced an arrest warrant for a 17-year-old suspect charged with attempted murder following a shooting early Sunday near the University of Iowa campus.
- Reports indicate as many as 40 people were involved in a fight before the suspect walked away and allegedly fired six times into the crowded pedestrian area, Liston said.
- Five people were treated for gunshot wounds, including one woman remaining in critical condition Wednesday. Liston noted the victims were not "targets of the shooting."
- Johnson County Attorney Rachel Zimmermann Smith stated the minor from Cedar Rapids will be charged as an adult, with five counts of attempted murder pending when apprehended.
- Liston confirmed that additional charges are expected as the investigation continues. Police are urging anyone with information on the incident or suspect to come forward.
