Police Identify 19-Year-Old Killed in Wilmington Hospital Shooting
Prosecutors say the attack was targeted and left one worker dead and another critically injured, while ChristianaCare is reviewing employee security screening.
On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, John Wallace-Bey allegedly entered Wilmington Hospital and shot two 19-year-old co-workers, killing Ethan Hillman and injuring Jayden Ellis.
Following a verbal disagreement with the victims that morning, Wallace-Bey departed work but returned around 3 p.m., accessing the building through an employee entrance using his valid ID badge.
Authorities apprehended Wallace-Bey in Philadelphia's Olney neighborhood while he was attempting to catch an Uber, crediting federal and local law enforcement for locating him during the multi-hour manhunt.
Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings announced Monday that a grand jury indicted Wallace-Bey on first-degree murder, attempted murder, and weapons charges, with extradition proceedings currently pending.
Incoming ChristianaCare CEO Jenn Schwartz confirmed the hospital has implemented employee weapon screenings and is reviewing security protocols after facing criticism regarding emergency notification systems.
