Second Mental Health Worker at Welland School Charged with Assault
Police say the counsellors used restraint techniques outside their training, and investigators believe there may be more child victims.
Niagara Regional Police Service detectives charged two mental health counsellors with assault following allegations of excessive force at the Mountainview Centre for Innovative Learning in Welland.
The Child Abuse Unit began investigating in April 2026 after concerns arose that mental health counsellors used restraint techniques outside their scope of training on a child.
On Thursday, CAU detectives charged 22-year-old Madison Porkolab of Grimsby with one count of assault, while a 26-year-old from Welland also faces one charge.
Pathstone Mental Health said it is working with police, stating, "Pathstone Mental Health is committed to the health and well-being of the children, youth and families that we serve."
Detectives believe there may be additional victims and ask anyone with information to contact the CAU at extension 1008430 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 8477.
