Monumental Pogačar wins Tour of Flanders for record-equaling third time with another solo attack
- On Sunday, Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogačar won the Tour of Flanders for a record-equaling third time, crossing the finish line 33 seconds ahead of rival Mathieu van der Poel.
- The 278km route featured 16 punishing climbs and several cobblestone sections, making this one of cycling's five most prestigious one-day races, known as "Monuments."
- Pogačar and van der Poel rode together before the Slovenian launched a decisive attack on the final ascent of the Oude Kwaremont, while Double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel finished third.
- Having triumphed at Milan-San Remo and the Strade Bianche, Pogačar has won all three races he competed in this year and now holds 12 Monument victories.
- Winning next weekend's Paris-Roubaix would make Pogačar the fourth man to win all five Monuments, joining cycling legends Eddy Merckx, Rik Van Looy, and Roger De Vlaeminck.
