- On Tuesday, July 15, 74-year-old pilot David Stephens disappeared after taking off from Wangaratta, Victoria, bound for Moruya Airport in NSW.
- Stephens had his 1966 Beechcraft Debonair inspected before the flight, and his wife said mountain weather can turn quickly, suggesting he chose to continue despite risks.
- A multi-agency search led by AMSA resumed about 8:30 a.m. on July 16 involving NSW Police Rescue, State Emergency Services, and aerial units amid rugged, snow-covered alpine terrain.
- A rescue helicopter located the wreckage near the plane's last GPS point around 4 p.m. on July 17, and Stephens’ body was found close to the site by 3 p.m. on July 18.
- NSW Police continue investigations into the crash, while Stephens’ family mourns the loss of an experienced pilot two months from retirement.
