Taipei, Aug. 6 (CNA) Kuomintang (KMT) lawmaker Su Ching-chuan (蘇清泉) has been granted deferred prosecution over a deadly fire that killed nine people at Antai Tian-Sheng Memorial Hospital in Pingtung County's Donggang Township last year, the Pingtung District Prosecutors Office said Wednesday.
The 2024 fire at Pingtung Antai Hospital caused nine deaths and seven injuries. Prosecutors found that the fire started in an iron machine room next to the power supply center. The cause was that two plumbers at the hospital misoperated an extension cord, causing a short circuit and sparks to ignite combustible materials piled nearby, causing the fire to spread all the way to various floors inside the power supply center and Building D.
