Damiani Has 3 Goals, Sullivan Has 3 Assists, Union Beat Cincinnati 5-0 to Extend Unbeaten Streak
Bruno Damiani added two second-half goals and Philadelphia outshot Cincinnati 19-1 after a straight red card left the visitors with 10 men.
On Wednesday, the Philadelphia Union defeated FC Cincinnati 5-0 at Subaru Park, extending their unbeaten streak since the World Cup break. Bruno Damiani secured his first MLS hat trick in the dominant victory.
Playing shorthanded after defensive midfielder Obinna Nwobodo received a straight red card in the 16th minute following a video review, Cincinnati struggled defensively throughout. This early dismissal forced the team to play a man down for the remainder.
Philadelphia recorded 64.7% possession while outshooting Cincinnati 19-1, controlling the match. Cavan Sullivan provided three assists to support Damiani's scoring, with Quinn Sullivan and Milan Iloski adding penalty-kick goals.
Dropping to seventh place in the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference, Cincinnati faces additional challenges with Nwobodo and Evander suspended for Saturday's match against Charlotte at TQL Stadium.
Head coach Pat Noonan said, "Mentality can be a lot better," following the defeat. The team aims to recover from their two-game losing streak against Charlotte this weekend.
