Pete Buttigieg, at SU, says universities must ‘fiercely guard’ independence

Syracuse, N.Y. — Former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg chided universities for not staying relevant enough and flexing enough independence amid recent attacks from the federal government.In a talk Friday afternoon at Syracuse University’s National Veterans Resource Center, Buttigieg said educational institutions need to do more to stay relevant, and find ways to lower costs.
